Advanced Biofuels Canada

A national industry association’s communications and web partner since 2014

Advanced Biofuels Canada is the national industry association for the development of the Canadian biofuels sector, and its work reaches members across the global energy and transportation industries, federal and provincial governments, and major partners. I started working with them in 2014.

It started small with a couple of web applications they needed help with. In 2016 we built their first brand and their first website, and it grew from there: writing, editing, research, and a series of large, government-facing reports – the kind that turn many contributors’ input into one clear, credible voice. Since then I have contributed across two areas, documents and websites: design, layout, data visualization, and full production of a range of professional materials for delivery to government and industry leaders. Other projects have included stand-alone web applications, explainer videos, and various messaging tools. Over time the relationship widened to take in the initiatives orbiting the organization – CBSCI, BioPortYVR, Net Zero Clean Fuels, SAF Strong Start, and a public education site – each needing its own identity, website, documents, and data work.

As the organization grew and built out its own communications capacity, my role deepened on the side I do best. The centrepiece was a full rebuild of the main website: a modest site reimagined as a professional-grade platform with hundreds of posts, a deep content architecture, templating, interactive data visualization, and the categorization, tagging, and filtering that let people actually find what they need.

Through all of it, the brief has come down to one word: professional. Serious, clean, and credible, without the glossy corporate veneer this kind of work is so often pushed toward. It had to hold its own in front of government and global industry while staying grounded and substance-first – no facade, no wasted polish, nothing getting in the way of the content.

The result is one of my longest and closest client relationships – still active, still in weekly contact, and now centred on maintaining their entire external web presence. Over those years the organization has grown from a handful of small companies into a membership that includes some of the largest names in global energy. The scope has changed shape many times over the years; the standard behind it never has.

“Jason and his team have done multiple projects, including website development, for our organization over a number of years. He has taken on challenging asks and provided elegant solutions – thanks Jason.”
