bio-GENERATION

Full-service business readiness for a research-driven venture group. Fourteen years, six brands.

bio-GENERATION is a research-driven venture group working on non-toxic alternatives to industrial chemistry. Its ventures are at various stages of development, and finding the right market for a new technology is most of the challenge. For fourteen years I’ve handled the brand, communications, and digital work for the group, working alongside the founder. In practice that has meant building the scaffolding that lets a small team be taken seriously by industries far larger than itself.

The work spans everything the group has built: i-SOLV, a line of green industrial chemistry – solvents, lubricants, and an oil-absorbing foam, developed as non-toxic alternatives to petrochemical products – and an antimicrobial platform whose variations opened markets with almost nothing in common: materials and manufacturing additives (rep-L), medical devices and protective equipment (Bio-ARMA), human pharmaceuticals (Biocidium), veterinary health (Vetacare), and topical and cosmetic products (i-ALO).

Each of those needed a name, an identity, a position, an audience, and a vocabulary, all of it built out of technical science. The names came out of work with the founder. The design language across the group is mine.

I’ve handled the whole of their communications, internal and external – the websites, the content, the technical documents, the marketing. Producing that credibly for six sectors meant learning each one properly: the science, the regulatory language, the competitive landscape, and what a buyer in that field actually needs to hear. What convinces a paper mill has nothing in common with what convinces a pharmaceutical regulator.

The brands work as a family. Each venture carries a variation on a shared icon, distinguished by colour, and the parent bio-GENERATION mark holds them all together. rep-L is the most substantial build of the group: industry research, content development, graphics, layout, and page building, with the whole site then duplicated and translated into Chinese for its target market.

Much of the work leaves nothing to look at. Dozens of domains and redirects. Hosting, maintenance, and updates across every site. Toll-free numbers and answering services. Safety data sheets and product information built to international standards. GDPR, privacy policies, terms of service. This is operational readiness in practice – the scaffolding that lets a small team be taken seriously.

Making difficult science legible to an industry that’s never heard of it, and building the operation underneath so a small team can hold its own there – that’s the work. I’ve done it six times over.

Scope of work

  • Brand architecture – a parent brand and six venture identities sharing a common icon system, differentiated by colour
  • Brand and identity – colour, typography, layout, imagery, and the design language across the group
  • Websites – design, build, content, and ongoing management; rep-L fully duplicated and translated into Chinese
  • Content and research – industry research and content development across six sectors, from industrial chemistry to pharmaceuticals
  • Technical documents – safety data sheets, product information sheets, and supporting collateral
  • Product and packaging – product mockups and label design
  • Operational readiness – dozens of domains and redirects, hosting and maintenance, toll-free numbers and answering services, GDPR, privacy policies, terms of service
